Surrounded by his family, Donald Painter, age 68, passed away on June 8, 2017 at his home in the Spring Creek, LA. community. He was born October 28, 1948 to Nerlie Painter and Glynn McIntyre Painter. He attended and graduated from Spring Creek School where he participated in sports, agriculture, and was named "Most Witty". Don was raised on a dairy farm and it was here that a foundation was laid for his beliefs. He grew up in a family with four siblings. His father died on Christmas day when he was fourteen. He helped his mother on the farm for as long as she lived. During these times, he developed not only a strong work ethic, but great pride for a job well done. The love for family and a strong work ethic learned in these formative years would remain with him for the rest of his life. Don married Patricia (Trish) Alford on January 1, 1982. They were married for 35 years. He worked various jobs centered on the farming and construction industry. During this time he had two daughters, a son, and seven grandchildren. Don enjoyed the company of his family and friends. He had a dry sense of humor that would many times leave you baffled, but would always leave you smiling. When his grandson would visit, he would say, "Papaw, are you happy to see me?" There was no doubt, Don loved his family and friends and was always happy to see them. Don enjoyed working on the tractor, yard work, going barefoot, making Trish hot chocolate, watching wrestling and "Jeopardy" with his wife, family get togethers, dove hunting, and fried chicken. He genuinely enjoyed and appreciated being a part of a large family. Don never complained and even when his health declined, would leave you with a smile. We will carry his memory in our hearts forever. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Painter; daughters, Ann-Claire Painter Newman and husband Chris and Christi Crawford Travis and husband Trey; son, Christopher Crawford and wife Michelle; grandchildren, Seth Travis, Connor Travis, Ayden Travis, Addie Painter, and Gabe Newman; sisters, Barbara Jean Taylor and husband, Morris, Sheila Jones and husband, Carlos, Betty Elliot and husband Mike; brother, Bruce Painter; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Nerlie and Glynn Painter; grandson Logan Hargis and granddaughter Anna Leise Newman; and a special niece, Jenny Jones Pittman. A memorial service will be held at a later date for family and friends. Special thanks to the staff at North Oaks ICU. McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, in charge of arrangements.
