Josie Gennaro Garafola, a resident of Independence, passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Hammond Nursing Home. She was born December 10, 1929 in Independence and was 87 years of age. Survived by 2 sons, Charles Garafola and John Garafola; 3 granddaughters, Christina Edwards and Jamie and Lily Garafola; 4 greatgrandchildren, Baylee Daigle, Ryan, Tryston, and Brynlee Cook; 3 sisters, Pauline, Manette, and Virginia; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, Sam C. Garafola; parents, John and Genevieve Gennaro; 2 brothers, Anthony and Sam. Visitation was held at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Monday and at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, Independence, from 8:30 a.m. until religious services at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2017. Interment Colonial Mausoleum, Independence, LA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church in Independence.
